The Residential Project is the final and exclusive component of the Gold Award. It is designed to be an immersive experience for participants in an environment they’re not used to. It is an opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and really get to know a new place.
It will generally focus on a single activity, such as construction work in disadvantaged communities or delivering awareness raising presentations on social issues. The Residential Project takes place for five days and four nights, so it is the longest single-activity of the Award, and is often done in a group.
The expenses of doing the Residential Project, however, can hinder the ability of participants to undertake the project they believe will have the greatest impact on the community they would visit and on themselves as individuals. Many of our participants come from marginalised backgrounds and therefore while they may dream big, they may not have the resources to make those dreams a reality. That is why we have designed a Residential Project Sponsorship Package.
This package includes transport to and from the local community, basic accommodation while there, and food for the duration of the project, for an average medium distance Residential Project. The planning and logistics of the Residential Project is organised by the participants, and any additional costs for the their project (e.g. construction materials) they must fund-raise for as part of the experience of their Residential Project.
The Residential Project Sponsorship Package costs Rs. 30,000 (US$300) and covers the costs of 8 participants from one marginalised school.
