This month we spent a whole week in Jhapa – this was for their regional Award Ceremony, a full day of Award Leader Training, visiting and monitoring existing Award Units, and meeting with principals from potential new Award Units.
We arrived there on Friday 12 January and immediately began meetings with school principals. The next day was one of the most intense for us as we visited 4 schools that day. This was both to monitor their progress and help them to troubleshoot any issues they were having, and to meet with their participants to film interviews with them (like this recent one from Kathmandu). Soon we will be featuring new videos of participants sharing their Award experiences from:
- Mechi Modal Higher Secondary School
- Convent English School
- Swornim Shiksha Sadan
- Nabodaya Shiksha Sadan
Sunday 14 January was the day of the regional Award Ceremony, coordinated by Subarna Bhattrai from Mechi Modal Higher Secondary School. This was a wonderful celebration of the participants’ achievements through the Award, full of singing and dancing, and with 59 young people receiving their Bronze Awards. We look forward to presenting even more Awards next year following this visit.
On Thursday 15 January we conducted a full day of Award Leader Training at Jhapa Model English Secondary School for 14 new Award Leaders and Coordinators from schools across the region. It was a very successful day and we welcome all the new members of the Award Family.
The rest of our time in Jhapa was spent meeting existing and potential Award Units to discuss progress of the Award in the region and how we can work more closely to expand the opportunities of the Award to all young people in Jhapa. We hope through the new partnerships and profile-raising this trip has produced that this will become a reality sooner rather than later.
The visit to Jhapa was facilitated by Subarna Bhattrai from Mechi Model Higher Secondary School and Anish Luitel from Activity Recreation Centre, and we thank them both for their hard work and continued support of the Award in Jhapa.
